I love all holidays. It’s a fact. Christmas is by far my favorite, but I love Valentines Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween and the 4th of July almost as much. I figure there is too much negative in the world not to celebrate holidays.
I’m a big fan of traveling no matter what time of year, but traveling over a holiday seems to make that day even more special. This year I decided to spend New Years in Austin. One of my friends is attending law school in Austin, and invited us to spend New Years with her exploring the city. I visited Austin a few times when I lived in Dallas. In truth, I had never been as impressed with Austin as it seems the rest of the millennial population is. Maybe living in Brooklyn ruined it for me, but I always felt like Austin was trying a little too hard.
After visiting in the winter, I feel like I now understand the appeal. It was 60-70 degrees the entire week I was there. This was January, when I had just left 30-40 degree weather in St. Louis. It was so nice to spend the week hiking the trails that seem to combine the best of the city skyline with the wildness of nature without having to worry about getting frostbite. We ate pizza from the Austin favorite “Home Slice” and spent NYE at Texas Roadhouse. It was the perfect relaxing vacation for my home-loving self.

Being back in Austin also reminded me of all the Texas things I miss since moving back from Dallas. I’m already planning my summer trip back to the Lone Star State.

Till next time,
Clover
